Japanese automaker will offer this engine in two transmission options for every buyer, a six-speed manual transmission as a standard options and CVT with paddle shifters for interested buyers. Meanwhile, the 2.5-liter flat-four Boxer engine on the 2013 Subaru Outback claimed to provide better fuel efficiency than the previous model but still maintains the engines performance on the road.

Any buyer who chooses a CVT automatic will receive more benefits from the fuel efficiency rating – 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Subaru also continue to offer the Outback 3.6R models powered by a 3.6-liter DOHC flat-six engine that will be hitting the road with 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. While the engine will be mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with a fuel efficiency rating is 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, referring to the current model.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the 2013 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited claimed to be better than the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot. All engine options will get the all-wheel-drive configuration.
